Bulldogs is one of the best bars in the area. Great food, best bartenders, and a fast service. They have a lot of regulars, which shows me the service is consistent. Staff is very welcoming to new customers. This is a must try if you’re in the area.
Not too busy on my first visit, but it was a Tuesday night after 10pm. I haven't been served a beer with frost on the outside of the pint glass in over 10 years, ICE COLD BEER here! The Spicy Peach wings and Honey Jerked Rum wings were both very good but what won me over was thier Brisket Chili, chili like no other. One of the best chili's I've ever had. I will be back for more. Took home an order of Shrimp Bisque, she loved it.. The bartender was fantastic and the people were friendly. A great first time experience.
Definitely shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. On the outside, this place seems like an old back-road dive bar for “locals only”... But, once you actually go in, sit down, and experience what it has to offer, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. I admittedly must’ve driven past this place a hundred times and never even noticed it before. But a Google search for “dog friendly restaurants near Smithville, NJ” brought me here, and I couldn’t be happier that it did! I went for dinner on a Friday night with my parents and my two small dogs. We were greeted and promptly directed to a a nice table for 3, on the wraparound porch area. My dogs were also very kindly greeted and were immediately provided with their own sizable dog bowl of cold water for them to enjoy, (at the same time that we were brought our menus). The food options were diverse and appealing, the prices were reasonable, and the customer service we received (from our waitress and other servers) from start to finish, was great! We had a waitress who admittedly hadn’t been working there long, but she was very attentive and even took the time to have the external heater behind our table turned on after we mentioned being cold (despite it being summertime). The cook even acquiesced my request and sent out a second dog bowl containing a fresh, unseasoned, cooked, sliced chicken breast for my dogs to enjoy for their dinner, along with us. In all honesty, it’s not an overly fancy place or anything like that (nor does it try to come off that way); however, what it lacks in bells & whistles, it makes up for in prompt, accommodating, and friendly service (to both people and dogs), and they offer a variety of very delicious and unique menu items that include more than generous portions. If you are a dog owner like me, I highly recommend checking them out!!
It can't go without saying—we LOVE supporting our amazing local businesses, and Bulldogs is truly one of the best! While we’re lucky to have them in our backyard, this hidden gem is worth the trip for anyone looking for incredible food, unbeatable service, and a real neighborhood vibe. Let’s be clear: this is not your average bar food. Their entrees could go head-to-head with five-star spots in Atlantic City—yes, they’re that good! And the experience? Next level. Shoutout to Rebecca and Rachel, who made our night unforgettable with their kindness, attention to detail, and all-around amazing service. We weren’t the only ones who noticed—table after bar patrons were singing their praises! If you haven’t been to Bulldogs yet, do yourself a favor. Great food, great people, and a place that truly feels like home!
The food and menu in general has improved greatly over the year or so. Had a awesome steak Cesar salad today. Regular home town bar. Very polite friendly staff. Solid wings and bar items. Try the crab cakes as well. The brisket pizza is also very good. 9/10
First time here and Taylor was our bartender. She is super friendly, quick with the drinks, and made us feel like we’ve been coming here for years. The wings were next-level, the burger was juicy and cooked perfectly, and the fried pickles? Easily the best I’ve had in a long time. Honestly, if every visit is like this, I’m gonna have to start budgeting for bar nights. Solid 10/10.
